8-year-old girl killed in NJ house fire, 2nd child critically injured
SOMERVILLE, N.J. (WCBS 880) – An 8-year-old girl was killed, and another child was critically injured, in a house fire in New Jersey early Friday morning.
The fire broke out just after 2 a.m. at a home on Eastern Avenue in Somerville. The house was soon consumed by flames, witnesses said.
Two adults and two children were inside the home at the time, and three of them managed to escape through a second-story window, WCBS-TV reported.

However, an 8-year-old girl became trapped in a bedroom and firefighters were unable to reach her in time, according to the report. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second child, a 9-year-old girl, was in critical condition. The two adults are expected to recover.
The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
