NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday that he’ll deliver his fourth State of the City address at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem on Jan. 9, 2025.

The annual address gives the city's mayors a platform for touting their achievements and outlining their plans for the future. Adams said he’ll present his administration’s “vision for an even safer and more affordable New York City in both 2025 and in the decades to come.”

“Whether it’s taking thousands of illegal guns off our streets, shattering affordable housing records over and over again, or putting billions of dollars back into the pockets of New Yorkers, our administration has fought every day to create a safer, more affordable city for working-class New Yorkers,” the mayor said in his announcement.

“Thanks to our efforts, New York City is not only back; we are better than ever,” the statement continued. “But as we look to the future, we know there is even more we can do to uplift working-class families across the five boroughs, protect our streets and subways, tackle the cost of rent, create more housing, and put even more money back into New Yorkers’ pockets.”

One of the highlights of the address will surely be the "City of Yes" rezoning plan that was passed by the City Council last week after Adams reached a landmark deal with lawmakers that includes $5 billion from the state towards affordable housing and infrastructure improvements. The plan includes an ambitious goal to build 80,000 new homes amid a major housing crisis.

For Adams, the address will come as he faces multiple primary challengers in the 2025 mayoral race and a trial on federal corruption charges that's set to begin in April. He has pleaded not guilty and said he intends to remain mayor.
