NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor-elect Eric Adams on Thursday announced he plans to accept his first three paychecks as mayor of New York City in Bitcoin.

Adams made the announcement on Twitter in response to a tweet from Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, in which he also said he would be accepting his next paycheck in the cryptocurrency.
“In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor,” Adams wrote.
He also vowed that “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries!”
The announcement came just one day after Adams told Bloomberg Radio that he wants to reshape New York into a crypto-friendly city, and challenged Miami Mayor Suarez to a “friendly competition.”
“He has a MiamiCoin that is doing very well — we’re going to look in the direction to carry that out,” Adams told Bloomberg.
As mayor, Adams said he would like to find out what is preventing the growth of cryptocurrency in New York City, especially when there has been such an increase in tech startups moving to the five boroughs.
