NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani will be holding a rally Monday night in Washington Heights, with the New York Times reporting that the event will be headlined by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who was recently indicted on fraud charges after pushes from President Donald Trump.

New York Democratic politicians came out against James’ indictment on charges of bank fraud and making a false statement, announced Thursday, calling it political retaliation by Trump and his administration over the attorney general’s investigations into the president.

“This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system,” James said in a video statement the day the indictment came down. “He is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as a New York State attorney general.”

Among those who spoke out was Mamdani, the city’s Democratic candidate for mayor, who organized a news conference Friday morning in Foley Square.

“This is not simply an attack on Attorney General Tish James,” Mamdani said. “This is an attack on our city. And each one of us represents different parts of that same city, and we speak with one voice today.”

James is expected to headline Mamdani’s Monday event according to a person close to the attorney general who spoke with the New York Times, in a rally titled “Our Time Has Come.”

“In front of thousands of New Yorkers, the campaign will say goodbye to the broken, billionaire-funded status quo and build a future politics where everyone can afford to live a dignified life,” Mamdani spokesperson Dora Pekec told the Times.

Pekec said the 7 p.m. rally will show the “breadth and depth of our coalition.”

1010 WINS reached out to Mamdani's team for comment.

James is expected to push New Yorkers to vote for Mamdani in the Nov. 4 election as his campaign focuses on voter accrual. Mamdani maintains a double-digit lead over second-place independent candidate former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani by 13 points in the Democratic primary.

The attorney general has denied any wrongdoing, and garnered support from other prominent New York leaders, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
