NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Alcohol will be banned on LIRR and Metro-North trains for 32 hours this weekend due to SantaCon, the MTA said Wednesday.
Beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday through noon Sunday, consumption of alcohol will be permitted on both train lines as well as the train’s platforms.
“Maintaining safe and orderly travel is always a priority,” said MTA Police Chief Mueller. “We want everyone to enjoy their holiday festivities and get to their destination smoothly and on time.”
The MTA typically bans alcohol on the trains each year during SantaCon weekend to promote safe travel.
Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal will also have an increased MTA police officer presence to enforce the weekend alcohol restriction. Summons will be issued and alcoholic beverages confiscated if caught.
Violators may also be subject to police removal from trains or stations.
