NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An American Airlines flight aborted takeoff at LaGuardia Airport on Thursday morning after the plane reportedly stuck a bird.

The flight—a Boeing 737-800 bound for Chicago’s O’Hare Airport—was departing the airport around 8:20 a.m. when “the crew reported striking a bird,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement on the incident.

A brief ground stop was implemented due to the bird strike, but ongoing delays are due to severe weather in the New York area, the FAA said.

It wasn't immediately clear if there were any injuries.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident. The FAA maintains a database where it records each collision between aircraft and wildlife.
