NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 20-year-old woman was thrown to the ground and had her property damaged during what police described as an Islamophobic hate crime in a Brooklyn subway station last week.
The St. Patrick’s Day attack happened at about 10:50 a.m. as the victim stood on the northbound D platform at the 9th Avenue subway station in Borough Park.
She was approached by a man who hurled anti-Islamic remarks at her before grabbing her arms and throwing her to the ground, police said.
The suspect then snatched the victim’s cellphone from her hands and chucked it at the ground, causing damage to the device.
He fled the scene in an unknown direction, and was last seen wearing a black and white jacket, dark-colored pants and black shoes, police said.
Medics responded and treated the woman for minor injuries.
The attack is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
