VIDEO: Armed man threatens employee during East Village smoke shop robbery

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD on Monday released surveillance footage of a man they are looking to identify in connection to a robbery that occurred inside an East Village store over the weekend.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, January 1, the suspect entered the Villager Smoke Shop located at 445 East 9th Street and approached the 21-year-old male employee behind the counter, officials said.

At first, the suspect asked about products available for purchase, but then he displayed a black and silver-colored firearm in his waistband and demanded property and money from the store employee, and threatened to kill him, authorities said.

According to police, the suspect removed the employee's personal cellphone and Apple Airpods and approximately $700 from the register before fleeing the location in an unknown direction.

The employee was not injured.

The suspect is described as a male approximately 6'2" tall, with a light complexion, thin build, with black hair. He was last seen wearing a black facemask, a dark dress jacket, a gray dress vest, a white dress shirt, gray pants, and black shoes.
