NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a man accused of slashing open the mouth of a subway rider at a Financial District station over the weekend.

It happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 25 when a 26-year-old man entered the South Ferry subway station and was approached by the suspect in the mezzanine, officials said.

The suspect engaged him in a verbal dispute and displayed a knife. The individual then slashed the victim about the mouth. The individual fled the location on foot to parts unknown.

The victim sustained a laceration and was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black ski mask, black jeans, black sweatshirt and black sneakers.
