Mom charged after 4-month-old girl left alone in stroller on Bronx street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Police charged the mother of a baby girl who was left alone in a stroller on a Bronx street Friday morning.

The 4-month-old girl was found abandoned shortly before 6 a.m. at Eastchester Road and Mace Avenue in Pelham Gardens.

Witnesses told police that a woman in a pink dress and denim jacket left the child and walked away.

The woman was eventually located about a 10-minute walk from the scene and identified as the girl's mother, Jawana Sallie.

The 41-year-old was arrested and charged with endangering incompetent.

The girl appeared to be unharmed when she was found, but she was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi as a precaution, police said.
