NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 26-year-old man was arrested on animal cruelty charges Friday after police found him hanging his dog by a leash attached to a collar from a fifth-floor railing, the New York Post reported, citing anonymous police sources.
Shatik Bennett, 26, was reportedly arrested at his East Flatbush apartment just before 6 a.m. after police responded to anonymous tips about the abuse.
The NYPD’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad handed the dog, a pit bull named Romeo, to the ASPCA for care and treatment of any injuries.
The Post’s anonymous police sources speculated that Bennett was abusing the dog to make him more aggressive.
Bennett reportedly faces charges for aggravated cruelty to animals.
