NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Brooklyn man was arrested on Sunday in connection with fatally stabbing his neighbor and wounding the neighbor's dog last week, police said.
Anthony Sabato, 37, was arrested and charged with murder, robbery, aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.
According to police reports, on Friday, June 28, at around 8 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man stabbed inside a building on Sands St. near Jay St. in downtown Brooklyn, where they found the victim, Thomas Machalchick, with multiple stab wounds including one in the torso.
Police also found a pit bull with several knife wounds.
Machalchick, 37, was taken to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, Sabato was arrested and arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court, where he was held without bail.
The pitbull was taken to a local animal hospital in stable condition, police said.
