NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The decomposing bodies of an 80-year-old woman and her 52-year-old son were found in a Downtown Brooklyn apartment after neither of them had been seen in a while, police said Thursday.

Officials performed a wellness check at 270 Jay St., near Tillary Street, after neighbors in the building called police Wednesday afternoon complaining of a foul odor coming from an apartment.

Responding officers discovered the mother and son dead inside. Authorities said that the mother had seemingly died first, with her body being in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Neither victim was found with trauma to their body, police said. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The victims’ names were not immediately released pending family notification.

No criminality is currently expected, and an investigation is ongoing, cops said.
