NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A body was found stuck in the chimney of a New York City public school after a janitor called an exterminator regarding a foul smell only days after classes ended for summer break, sources confirmed to 1010 WINS.

The discovery was made at P.S./ I.S. 113 Anthony J. Pranzo in Glendale, Queens on Tuesday morning. Sources said that the responding exterminator opened the ash dump and found a shoe; then, felt a foot and called the police.

The body belongs to an adult, sources said. It has been decomposing for some time and the deceased has not yet been identified.

The 2025-2026 school year concluded on Friday afternoon, and the Department of Education confirmed in a statement that there were no students in the building at the time of the discovery due to summer construction.

“This discovery is deeply upsetting and concerning, and we are making sure the right supports are in place for the entire school community while NYPD investigates," a DOE spokesperson said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
