Boy 12, stabbed in stomach by another boy while playing in Queens playground: officials

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 12-year-old boy was stabbed by another boy while they played at a playground in Queens on Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

The stabbing occurred at about 3 p.m. at Latimer Playground located on 167th Street in Jamaica and is right next to the Emerson School, officials said.

The wounded boy ran into the school building, while the other boy fled, sources told the Daily News.

He was then transported to Long Island Jewish Medical Center with a stab wound to his stomach and is in stable condition, authorities said.

Police eventually caught up with the attacker, who’s also 12, and arrested him, the NYPD said.

Officials have not released his name due to his age.

“NYPD and EMS immediately responded to this incident, which occurred off school property and after dismissal. We will work closely with the NYPD as they conduct a thorough investigation,” Department of Education spokesman Nathaniel Styer said.

An investigation is ongoing.
