NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 13-year-old boy was injured after he fell off a subway train in the Bronx on Sunday, reportedly while subway surfing.

The teen landed along the tracks just after 4 p.m. near the Eastchester Avenue station, an above-ground stop in Eastchester, police said.

The boy and possibly a couple other kids were subway surfing on an uptown 5 train at the time, according to multiple reports.

The boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

In early November, the NYPD reported six subway surfing fatalities and nearly 200 related arrests this year.

There were back-to-back subway surfing deaths in late October: A teen girl was killed on the 7 line in Corona on Oct. 27, just days after a teen boy was killed on the M line in Ridgewood on Oct. 23.

After the boy’s death, NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said the incident was “another heartbreaking situation where a child tragically mistook riding outside subway cars for some kind of joyride.”

“I implore anyone who thinks surfing trains is a game—and parents, friends and teachers who can persuade them otherwise—to understand the deadly risk and ride inside,” Crichlow said.

The MTA works with social media companies to take down subway surfing videos and also has messages on trains and at stations warning teens about the dangers.
