NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 13-year-old boy driving an electric scooter in Harlem on Thursday night died when he collided with an SUV at busy Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, according to the NYPD.
It happened just after 8:45 p.m. as the teen rode a Razor MX350 dirt rocket electric scooter west on 112th Street with a 14-year-old passenger.
Police said that the boy swerved in the eastbound lane to get around an vehicle making a left turn, and collided with an oncoming 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The 13-year-old was rushed to an area hospital with a head injury and pronounced dead, officials said. The passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a leg injury and is in stable condition.
The 61-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe remained on scene. The investigation is ongoing
"It's unfortunate. But we have to teach our kids we have to be respectful of the traffic, you have to always be mindful of what's going on," said William, who saw the crash aftermath.
