14-year-old boy killed crossing Brooklyn intersection in chain-reaction car crash, unlicensed driver arrested

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 14-year-old boy was killed while crossing a Brooklyn intersection in a two-car chain-reaction crash on Saturday, and one of the driver’s was arrested on aggravated driving charges, authorities said.

At about 6:16 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the intersection of East 81st Street and Glenwood Road in Canarsie.

Upon arrival, cops found a 14-year-old boy with trauma to the body.

Investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that one vehicle struck the front left fender of another vehicle. The collision prompted the first vehicle to rotate clockwise and hit the pedestrian with its driver’s side.

The 14-year-old victim, identified by police as Christian Antoine of Canarsie, was crossing the intersection at the time of the crash, police said.

Antoine was rushed by EMS to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, but was unable to be saved. Police said that his family has been notified.

The driver of the first vehicle, identified by police as Rayan K. Salmon, was taken to the same hospital with pain to the body in stable condition.

Salmon, 45, of Canarsie, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Officials said that the driver of the second vehicle was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County with pain to the body in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
