NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 4-year-old boy was struck and killed in Brooklyn by a hit-and-run driver on Thursday, police said.
The driver of a white Ford SUV hit the boy shortly after 11 a.m. at Linden Boulevard and Rockaway Parkway in Brownsville, according to the NYPD.
The boy apparently broke away from his mother and ran eastbound on Rockaway Parkway towards Church Avenue as the driver was headed northbound on Linden Boulevard, sources told 1010 WINS.
The child was taken right across the street to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center but he died from his injuries. Witnesses described a horrific amount of blood at the scene, with one man saying he thought someone had been shot.
Police were searching Thursday for the driver who left the scene. No arrests have been reported.
