NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 16-year-old student student stabbed an 18-year-old student in the library of a Bronx school Thursday, police said -- and it was all over a phone charger.

Officials said the incident happened at Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School just after 2 p.m.

Cops said the 18-year-old was stabbed in the back, stomach and leg.

Officials said the victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police later said that the fight between the two students broke out over a cellphone charger.

A Department of Education spokesperson said in a statement, "The safety of students and staff is our top priority, and both NYPD and EMS immediately responded to an incident at the high school today and we are providing supports to the family. We are working closely with NYPD while they investigate, adding more school safety agents and NYPD support to the school, and increasing mental health supports in the school."

Sources said that the NYPD will have a presence at the school Friday, and increased scanning will be performed.

School sources told News 12 The Bronx that the student responsible was still on the loose Thursday afternoon.
