NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – 1010 WINS' Mack Rosenberg spoke with a small-time landlord in the Bronx who has not been paid rent in two years, and is barely making ends meet. Listen below for the details:

Yolanda Silvera has been out of work on disability and renting part of the two-bedroom apartment she owns in the Bronx.

Not only has the tenant not paid rent, but Silvera has been threatened by the tenant and a man against whom she has an order of protection.

Despite an eviction notice in place against the tenant, it has yet to be executed. The eviction notice is one of tens of thousands of active eviction notices in NYC, with only 30 marshals.

At least 35 times in the past year, Councilmember Kevin Riley – who represents the district where Silvera lives – has heard about similar cases.

Riley is pushing for legislation to protect small homeowners, who he thinks get lumped together with big developers.
