NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Bronx man has been arrested and charged in the death of a homeless man after confessing that he set the victim on fire over a stolen scooter, police said.
Police arrested 28-year-old Errol Stephenson on Saturday in Westchester County, according to police. He was charged with second-degree murder.
Police said Stephenson was arrested in Mount Vernon after he admitted to NYPD detectives that he set the homeless man, 46-year-old Patrick Winkler, on fire last September. It's unclear why he was stopped in Mount Vernon.
Stephenson allegedly set Winkler on fire amid a dispute over his scooter, which had been stolen in Brooklyn, police said.
Winkler died a month after suffering third-degree burns to over 90% of his body in the attack, according to authorities.
