NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Bronx crack dealer was arrested for fatally punching a customer who knocked on his door too early, according to police and a report.
The customer, Hector Burgos, 69, knocked on the door of his dealer, Kiam Chelcher, 33, on April 25 around 4:45 a.m. on Cruger Avenue near Burke Avenue to buy crack, cops told the Daily News.
Chelcher allegedly confronted Burgos because he was upset about the early hour.
The Daily News reported an argument erupted, and Chelcer punched Burgos in the head and face, knocking him to the ground and causing him to strike his head.
Burgos was taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi and ultimately succumbed to his injuries from the brawl Tuesday, police said.
Though his death has been ruled a homicide, the NYPD has only charged Chelcher with assault at this time. It's unclear if charges will be upgraded, but an investigation is ongoing.
Both men have criminal histories, according to the report.
Records show that Chelcher was paroled in November 2017 after serving more than three years in state prison for drug dealing.
Burgos, who lived a few blocks away from Chelcher, had previous arrests for drug possession, burglary and arson, police told the paper.
