NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 73-year-old woman was shot and wounded outside her Bronx building while waiting for a ride to cast her vote in the New York primary Tuesday.

The victim was outside her apartment building on Garden Street and Prospect Avenue around 4:20 p.m. when police said she was shot in the leg by a gunman who then fled the scene.
Witnesses told the Daily News on Tuesday that up to 15 rounds were fired, and bullet holes could be seen in the ground-floor retail space and the second and sixth-floor windows.
Cops said the victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
According to the report, the woman told a neighbor to relay a message to her friend that she was "not gonna be able to go vote."
"So she still had a sense of humor," added the neighbor, who declined to give her name.
Another resident in the building told the Daily News that two bullets entered her apartment through bedroom windows when she was home with her children.
"The kids thought it was fireworks," the woman said. "When my 13-year-old realized it wasn't fireworks and glass actually shattered on her, she dropped to the floor. She was standing by the window when it happened."
"After that, me and my other daughter grabbed everybody out of the room," she said. "We were all in the hallway of the apartment where there’s no windows, just waiting there until everything was done. ... I told them, 'Stay away from the glass, stay away from the windows.' They were still shooting, it was bang, bang, bang, bang. All we heard were people screaming. You'd think your house is the safest place to be."
Police said Wednesday that there have not been any arrests and that the investigation is ongoing.
