Brooklyn apartment fire that killed mother, 2 daughters, caused by cooking accident

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A mother and her two daughters were killed in a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment fire on Friday, according to police and the FDNY.

Danielle Havens, 48, Journee Miles, 11, and Keslee Miles, 9, suffered burns and smoke inhalation after a cooking accident caused a fire in the apartment at 587 Gates Avenue around 5:05 p.m., officials said.

EMS rushed the victims to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, where they were pronounced dead.

Authorities said the apartment had no smoke alarms.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze in the apartment and extinguished it within an hour.
