Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to experience major closures over the weekend, detour maps provided by DOT

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The New York City Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over the weekend due to major planned closures caused by repair work.

The entire Queens-bound BQE will be closed between Atlantic Avenue and Sands Street from 2 a.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Monday, the DOT said.

The repairs are building on successful repairs made in October 2023. They focus on adding new concrete and reinforcing steel bars near Clark Street and Grace Court.

A final round of repairs is expected June 1 through June 3, officials said.

“Just as we did successfully last fall, we continue to deliver critical repairs to the BQE to preserve its lifespan while minimizing the impact on the local community,” DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said. “I encourage all New Yorkers to avoid the BQE in Brooklyn this weekend and to take mass transit.”

• Manhattan Bridge Exit Ramp
