
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A barge caught fire on Newtown Creek on Tuesday night, sending clouds of smoke over Long Island City.
The fire broke out around 9:20 p.m. in the area of Greenpoint and Review avenues, the FDNY said.
About 60 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene on Newtown Creek, a tributary of the East River between Greenpoint and LIC.

The fire was brought under control around 2 a.m.
No injuries were reported, according to the FDNY.
Recyclables were caught fire on the barge, though the fire marshal is investigating the exact cause.
