NEW YORK (1010 WIN) -- A yellow cab driver has been charged in two sex attacks in Manhattan this month, police said.

Muhammad Wasim, 36, was nabbed by the NYPD's Special Victims Squad on Tuesday in connection with the pair of attacks in Greenwich Village, according to police.

In an attack on the morning of Oct. 11, a 28-year-old woman who hailed a yellow taxi near Houston and Thompson streets was given alcohol by Wasim, who locked the cab doors and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Sources told the Daily News that a camera in the cab captured the assault. The woman was able to escape the cab after 15 minutes and called 911 the next day, according to the report.

Then on the morning of Oct. 20, a 36-year-old woman was walking on W. 12th Street when Wasim allegedly grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

The second attack was also captured by a camera, the Daily News reported.

Detectives ultimately linked Wasim to both attacks, police said. He was charged with attempted rape and sexual abuse.

He was arraigned Tuesday and released Thursday after paying a $10,000 cash bail, according to the Daily News.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
