NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD officer was injured when a car crashed in Greenwich Village's Washington Square Park early Sunday morning, police said.
A driver hopped a curb at Fifth Avenue and Washington Square North around 1 a.m. and entered the park, where he crashed into a compact NYPD car parked next to the Washington Square Arch, according to police.
An officer inside the police car was injured. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
The driver, who was not seriously injured, was taken into custody. Police said he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
The driver also struck the arch, but the famed marble monument wasn't damaged, according to the New York Post.
Citizen App video shows police and ambulances at the foot of the arch after the crash.
