Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Governor Cuomo says the caution flag is being waved even higher after WNY's COVID infection rate increased to 2 percent.

"We're going to deploy a SWAT team from the Department of Health that will do additional testing in eight sites," says Cuomo. There will be three in Buffalo, one in Niagara Falls, one in Lockport, one in Williamsville, one in West Seneca, and one in Dunkirk. They will have AVID testing machines at the sites which will provide same day results. "People will have to make an appointment, but we will focus on WNY," adds Cuomo.

Eight new testing sites will open on Saturday, August 29. Sites will be open from 11a.m.to 6pm Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sunday through Wednesday. All residents are eligible for tests and appointments can be made by calling 833-NYSTRNG (697-8764). New York State will deploy 50 rapid testing machines to support the effort and will deploy more as needed. All tests are free of charge and the results will support the contact tracing efforts being conducted to monitor and control the virus spread.
