NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Brooklyn Councilman Chaim Deutsch, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion last week, is “no longer a member of the City Council,” Speaker Corey Johnson said Tuesday evening.

“Based on our review of the charging document and Mr. Chaim Deutsch’s plea agreement, the Council has concluded that the office of the 48th Council District has been vacated under the operation of law,” Johnson said in a statement.

“Mr. Deutsch confessed to a crime and violated his oath of office,” he added. "He is no longer a member of the City Council.”

Deutsch, whose district includes Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay and Midwood, pleaded guilty to evading more than $80,000 in taxes, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said last week.

1010 WINS has reached out to Deutsch's office for comment.
