NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Women and people of color who work for the city of New York earn "thousands of dollars" less per year than their male counterparts, a City Council analysis found.
Men who work for the city full-time earn approximately $4,500 more per year, on average, than women, an analysis the Council released Thursday found.
Black city employees make around $7,600 less per year on average than white employees, while Asian employees make around $6,500 less per year than white employees, according to the analysis.
Hispanic and Latinx employees, meanwhile, make around $8,700 less per year on average than non-Hispanic and non-Latinx employees.
In a statement, Council Speaker Corey Johnson called the findings "troubling."
"For too long, the many contributions of women and people of color have been short-changed," he said. "It's incumbent on all of us to make sure we are working to right those wrongs, and address the biases and discriory practices that contribute to pay and opportunity gaps."
