NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a man who sprayed caustic chemicals in the face of a 49-year-old man who was riding a Citi Bike near Central Park last week and attacked him when he was confronted.

The victim was biking along Central Park West near West 86th Street around 2:30 a.m. on June 19 when he was sprayed with the unidentified chemicals, officials said.

The attacker allegedly knocked him off his bike while his eyes were burning and tried to flee with it.

The 49-year-old man chased after him though, and managed to retrieve the Citi Bike, according to authorities.

The attacker then reportedly punched him in the face several times before fleeing on foot without the bike into the 86th Street subway station.

EMS treated the victim’s injuries at the scene.

Police asked anyone with information on the attack to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Anonymous tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
