Dad charged after video allegedly shows him abusing his sons at Bronx subway station
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A father has been charged in connection with a video that allegedly shows him abusing his two young sons at a Bronx subway station.
Joshua Gilead, 35, was charged with two counts of aggravated family offense and two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child less than the age of 17, police said.
The disturbing video made headlines this week after it was shared on Facebook by community advocate Tony Herbert.
The video, taken last Friday at the Fordham Road/Jerome Avenue station, shows a man hitting one boy and shaking the other as he yells at them.
Gilead had joint custody of his two children, ages 9 and 7, and had taken the kids from their mother's Bronx apartment, according to WABC.
Gilead spoke with PIX11 about the incident, telling the station: "I punched him in the face. I punched him in the arm and I grabbed his hair because he doesn't like it."
"I punched him in the arm because they both were going back and forth. I just was not in my best state of mind," he said. "I love my kids every single day."
The father said he was stressed and struggles with mental illness.
