Dad fatally shot by daughter's ex-boyfriend during dispute in Brooklyn: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials are investigating a 49-year-old man that was allegedly fatally shot in the chest by his daughter’s ex-boyfriend while attempting to intervene in a dispute between them early Tuesday in Brooklyn.

At approximately 4:25 a.m., on April 20, police responded to a 911 call of a person shot in front of 646 Osborn Street near Linden Boulevard in Brownsville.

Upon arrival, officers observed the victim, Vernon Kelly with a gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS rushed the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier in the night, Kelly’s adult daughter got into an argument with her ex-boyfriend who then went to his home on Osborne Street where the dispute continued.

When Kelly was informed of the incident, he left his home in the Flatlands area to the ex’s home with his fiancee, according to a report from the Daily News.

Kelly then began to defend his daughter when her ex shot him in the chest on the street outside his home, officials said.

The gunman then fled the scene, sources told the outlet.

The former couple have a child together, the outlet reported.

There have bee no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
