NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – He still wants to know: Are you talking to him?
Robert De Niro will reportedly reprise his “Taxi Driver” role of disgruntled cabbie Travis Bickle—in upcoming Uber ads.
The ads are filming this week in London, according to the U.S. Sun.
A source told the outlet that De Niro, 80, will even bring back his legendary line from the nearly 50-year-old film depicting 1970s era New York: “You talkin’ to me?”
The source added that the Academy Award-winning actor will “certainly get some stick” for reviving the iconic role in ads.
“A lot of people feel like some of these classic films are his best work, and signing up to commercials is selling out a bit,” the source said, while also noting the actor’s previous ads—for companies like Warburtons and Kia—show “he has no problem poking fun at himself.”
It’s unclear when the Uber ads will debut, but the ride-sharing service is said to be planning a series of ads with famous passengers.
