NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Wellness guru Deepak Chopra will host a large-scale meditation and yoga class in Bryant Park on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in order to “foster a shared sense of peace and healing.”
The event, which will be the nation's largest yoga class, will take place in the Midtown Manhattan park at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, and begin with a seated breathwork meditation led by Chopra.
Chopra is a controversial alternative medicine advocate, the author of “Ageless Body, Timeless Mind: The Quantum Alternative to Growing Old,” and serves as the chief wellness officer of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
His portion of the event will be followed by a 40-minute yoga asana session instructed by famed yogi Sarah Platt-Finger.
“The IIN-Chopra Yoga Certification is a culmination of my life's work. Together with Sarah, we have created a simple, spiritual, and profound practice based on The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga and grounded in the belief that yoga is the perfect prescription for self-realization and freedom from suffering,” Chopra said.
The event will be held as a part of the ongoing Bryant Park Yoga series, presented by CALIA, which offers free classes all summer long in an attempt to make wellness more accessible to New Yorkers.
“[Chopra and Platt-Finger’s] presence underscores our collective commitment to promoting wellness and providing enriching experiences for the community. We invite anyone in the area to join us for this extraordinary event,” said Daniel Biederman, executive director of the Bryant Park Corporation.

“This event, held in the heart of New York City, focuses on healing and hope for the city's yoga community,” Chopra said.
