NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Delta plane that was landing at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night struck its wing on the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Endeavor Air Flight 4814’s left wing struck the runway at about 10:10 p.m. as the pilot was “executing a go-around due to an unstable approach,” the FAA said.
A go-around is a routine maneuver performed at the discretion of the pilot and air traffic controller that discontinues the landing approach and allows the plane to regain altitude, reconfigure and try again.
Flight 4814 had departed from Jacksonville, Florida and had 76 customers, two pilots and two flight attendants on board. According to Port Authority, there were no injuries or impact to airport operations.
“The Endeavor Air flight crew followed established procedures to safely enact a go-around at New York-LaGuardia,” Delta said in a statement to ABC7. “The aircraft landed safely and proceeded to its arrival gate. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”
The plane remained on the ground at LaGuardia Airport on Monday.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
