NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Brooklyn NYPD detective reportedly used his badge to avoid paying over $15,000 in unpaid tolls and a penalty for driving an unregistered car in Brooklyn.
An MTA spokesperson told the New York Post that Det. Yosef Aisaa, 35, was stopped in his Land Rover by Bridge and Tunnel officers before 3:30 p.m. Thursday just after he crossed the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
Aisaa's car registration was pulled by the state DMV after "persistent toll violations" reached thousands of dollars in both unpaid tolls and fees.
However, the Post reports he was "somewhat arrogant" when stopped by officials who told them his vehicle needed to be impounded.
Aisaa then allegedly flashed his badge and tried to talk himself out of the incident.
His car was eventually towed and his car plates will be removed until he can pay off his unpaid fees and tolls.
The detective also claimed it was an issue with his EZ-Pass and that the story was "inaccuate," yet admitted to the Post he was stopped on the bridge.
NYPD spokesperson Sgt. Edward Riley said the incident is under review.
However, this is apparently not the first time Aisaa has been in trouble with the department.
He was caught in 2019 for using his police vehicle for non-police functions, making inaccurate statements, failing to log his movement in police records and for reportedly being absent from his post half a dozen times.
The NYPD also revoked 20 vacation days and his then-time/leave balance, forcing him to pay $343 in restitution after he drove in his police car without permission on four instances and turned on his police lights and sirens four times for no credible reason.
