Both men were formerly incarcerated people seeking services at the Fortune Society, a non-profit in Long Island City that helps re-integrate ex-convicts.

A 30-year-old man stabbed a 34-year-old man in the stomach at the Fortune Society’s facility on Northern Boulevard near 40th road around 2 p.m., officials said.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The suspect fled and is still at-large.

Authorities believe the men knew each other.

"We are horrified by today's incident at our headquarters in Long Island City. We are still gathering facts but as of now know only that one of our program participants was seriously injured and is now hospitalized,” Fortune Society president and CEO JoAnne Page told CBS News in a statement. “We have never had an incident like this happen in my 33 years leading this organization. We pride ourselves on providing a safe and welcoming environment and do not tolerate violence of any kind.  We are fully cooperating with law enforcement.”
