Driver fatally strikes boy, 5, who ran out into Queens street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A woman driving in Queens struck and killed a 5-year-old boy who ran out into the street on Saturday evening, the NYPD said.

Police received a 911 call at 6:06 reporting the collision near 20-19 124th St. in College Point, just outside of Poppenhusen Playground.

Based on the preliminary police investigation, the boy ran into the roadway and was struck by a 2008 Honda CRV that was traveling southbound.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman, stayed on the scene.

EMS rushed the boy, who had sustained head injuries, to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

It was not immediately clear who, if anyone, was with the child.

The investigation is ongoing.
