NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A driver struck and injured an NYPD officer before fleeing the scene of a traffic stop in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, police said.

NYPD officers were conducting the vehicle stop at West 8th Street and Quentin Road in Gravesend shortly after 4:30 a.m. when the cop was hit.

After officers exited their vehicle, a man in a gray Mercedes-Benz C300 reversed into one of them, police said.

The driver then fled westbound on Quentin Road. He remained at large Tuesday.

EMS transported the officer to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition.

It wasn’t immediately known why the driver was initially pulled over.
