The man was driving on Sheffield Avenue near Linden Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. when two men approached his car and held him at gunpoint, officials said.

They demanded his wallet, which he handed over, and then told him to hand over the keys, according to authorities.

When he either refused or didn’t comply fast enough, the carjackers reportedly shot him twice in the chest before running off.

Emergency responders rushed him to Brookdale Medical Center in critical condition.

Police have not yet made any arrests, and an investigation is ongoing.
