NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A driver struck two pedestrians in a hit-and-run incident in Queens early Sunday morning while avoiding a traffic stop, police said.
The collision occurred just before 2 a.m. at 80th Street and Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights.
Authorities said that a driver was operating a BMW erratically at the time of the crash, though police confirmed that a chase did not ensue. In an attempt to avoid a police stop, the driver smashed the BMW into a 23-year-old man, 28-year-old woman and a firebox.
The male victim sustained a laceration to his leg and the female victim suffered from back pain, but both victims were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in stable condition, police said.
The driver fled the scene on foot following the crash. A passenger who was riding in the BMW was taken into police custody, officials said. There have been no formal arrests.
Police are investigating.
