NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An e-bike rider smashed into a parked delivery truck in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon and died, and the NYPD High Districts Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
Jose Luis Zamora Rodriguez, 38, of the Bronx, was traveling eastbound on West 181st Street near Fort Washington Avenue at about 3:57 p.m. on Sunday when he hit the rear liftgate of a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer.
EMS responded to the Washington Heights scene and rushed the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced dead.
Police said that the tractor-trailer was double-parked and left unattended in the eastbound lane of 181st Street.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
The Department of Transportation launched an e-bike safety campaign dubbed “Get Smart Before You Start” in March due to rising cyclist deaths.
