NEW YORK -- Equinox and SoulCycle club members and employees in New York City will be required to be vaccinated beginning in early September, the company said Monday.

Equinox Group says the requirement extends to members, riders and employees in order to enter Equinox clubs, SoulCycle studios and corporate offices.

The group says it found via survey that 96% of Equinox members and 89% of responding employees are vaccinated.

“This safety initiative is a program resulting from consultation with local and state officials and to continue to protect the health and safety of our community,” Equinox Group said in the release.

Equinox Group came to the decision in “consultation with local and state officials.” The announcement came not long after Mayor Bill de Blasio asked that all New Yorkers wear masks indoors to stem the growing delta variant numbers.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also extended a request to the state’s private businesses to consider requiring proof of vaccination.

Equinox has a total of 40 locations in New York City, while SoulCycle has 19 city studios, according to its website.
