NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The ex-boyfriend of a Jersey City kindergarten teacher who was found dead in a shallow grave on Tuesday was arrested Friday in connection to the killing, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office.

Officers arrested Cesar Santana, 36, at a motel in Miami, Florida Friday night. Authorities are also searching for another man, Leiner Miranda Lopez, 26.

The BelovED Charter School teacher Luz Hernandez was discovered beaten and strangled in a shallow grave in Kearny on Tuesday, after she was reported missing by her employer when she didn’t show up to work on Monday.

Santana had reportedly been dating Hernandez since they were in high school, but they separated last year. He is the father of her three children.

Both Santana and Miranda Lopez were charged with one count of desecrating or concealing human remains. Neither were immediately charged with homicide, but the prosecutor’s office said additional charges could be filed.

Santana is being held at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Night Detention Center pending extradition to New Jersey.
