NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The father of a girl involved in a Queens Amber Alert has been arrested in a separate incident after the girl was found unharmed, police said.
The NYPD on Wednesday afternoon confirmed that Jaila Puello was found safe.
Later on Wednesday night, Jaila's father Jean Puello, 40, was arrested on attempted rape and menacing charges in relation to a separate incident.
Authorities said Jaila Puello was last seen on Grand Avenue around 2:15 a.m. with her father, who was driving a four-door 2002 green BMW 530i with New York plates KFM-2998.
The abduction allegedly stemmed from a violent dispute during which Jean Puello attempted to rape the girl's mother, who is his ex-girlfriend, according to police.
When Puello attempted to have sex with the woman, she said no — and Puello grew angry, according to police.
Puello allegedly grabbed the mother's wrists and began twisting them and then tried to pull down her pants and underwear, police said.
The woman managed to kick herself free, at which point Puello allegedly began threatening her with a knife.
She fled and called the police from somewhere inside the building, as Puello allegedly took off with their daughter, according to police.
