NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A father and son were stabbed repeatedly while fighting off two suspects during an attempted moped theft outside a Queens home early Friday morning.
It happened after midnight outside a home on 201st Street in Bayside, police said. The 23-year-old victim was stabbed in the head, lower back and right shoulder, while his 62-year-old father Julio was stabbed in the knee and slashed in the stomach.
Julio told 1010 WINS that the would-be thieves were trying to steal mopeds from a driveway, so he and his son confronted them with crutches. "We use this one for defense," he said, indicating the mobility aide.
During the scuffle, the victims were stabbed repeatedly. Police said that two suspected fled southbound on 201st Street on a two-wheeled vehicle. One was clad entirely in black and wore a helmet, while the other was in a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans, authorities said.
The father and son were both transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Julio is back home, but said his son remains hospitalized.
The incident occurred outside Willie Kelly's home, and he told 1010 WINS that it raises concerns for his family.
"Look, I have my little girl. That's what I brought from the Bronx. I brought her all the way down here, you know what I mean, thinking that it's going to be a safer place," he said.
