According to the investigation, Tariq Witherspoon, who was off-duty at the time, fatally struck Matthew Jensen, 58, with his Rolls Royce as he was crossing a Greenpoint intersection on May 18, 2021, at around 12:45 a.m. and allegedly fled the scene.

The 30-year-old was arrested Tuesday and charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and excessive speed, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.

Gonzalez said Jensen, a "beloved" teacher at P.S. 110 in Greenpoint, "is sorely missed by his students, co-workers, friends and family" and that his alleged killer will be held accountable.

"We will now seek to bring this defendant to justice for his alleged actions, which left a community heartbroken," he added.

Witherspoon was ordered held on bail of $75,000 bond or $15,000 cash and was ordered to return to court on April 27, 2022.
